Recent Form Of The Teams

Time is slowing run out for Aston Villa if they want to remain in the Premier League this season. Dean Smith’s side have been in terrible form over their previous six games as they have lost five. The only point that they have picked up during this run came in their first game back against Sheffield United seven days ago. The Villa were hugely fortunate to have come away with a point after the referee’s goal-line technology wasn’t working when Orjan Nyland took the ball over his own line.

Villa had chances to win the game themselves in the second period. However, it summed up their season that they were unable to take any of them. Smith’s side came up against Chelsea in their last outing and took the lead through Kortney Hause. However, they were unable to hang onto the win as second half goals from Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud turned the game on its head. Villa will be hoping for a better result in this fixture.

Any fears that Newcastle United could be dragged into the relegation scrap were put at ease over the weekend as they produced their best performance of the season to beat Sheffield United 3-0. The Toon were superb throughout the fixture and were deserving of the three points. Allan Saint-Maximum put the Magpies into the lead, before Matt Ritchie and Joelinton scored later goals to secure the dominant win. They are now nine points above the relegation places. Steve Bruce will now be looking ahead and hoping that his side can battle for a place in the top-half of the league table.

Recent Meetings Between Sides

The meeting earlier in the season was the first time that these two sides have played each other in the Premier League since 2016. Villa have only beaten Newcastle twice in the previous 14 meetings. The Magpies have won seven of the 14 meetings. However, Villa will take confidence as they won the match earlier in the season 2-0. Conor Hourihane and Anwar El Ghazi scored the goals in that fixture.

Newcastle United vs Aston Villa Pick

These two sides are evenly matched with both preferring to hit their opponents on the counter attack. Villa have played decent in their previous two games, while Newcastle also restarted the season strongly. The most likely result in this fixture will be the draw.
