Before Betting on Mariners vs Angels Aug 15

The Seattle Mariners have a two game losing streak going after dropping their weekend series against the Rangers. Seattle will try to snap that on Monday night but it won’t be easy with the Angels quietly playing better ball as of late and sending Shohei Ohtani (10-7, 2.68 ERA) to the mound in the series opener.

The Mariners have cooled off a bit after their 18-7 mark in July, kicking off August at just 7-6. Seattle is still in the second wild card spot, but the White Sox, Twins, Orioles, and Rays, are all within two games. The Mariners are 5-7 in the head to head series with the Angels this season.

Ohtani had a rough July – by his standards – posting a 2-2 record with a 3.20 ERA. He gave up 6ER in a start against Atlanta which ballooned that ERA a bit and also took the loss in a 2-0 defeat to the Rangers, but Ohtani seems to have bounced back with a 1.54 ERA in two August starts. Ohtani shut out Seattle over 6.0 IP while allowing just 3 hits in his only meeting with the Mariners this season.

Luis Castillo (4-4, 2.86 ERA) starts for Seattle in his third game since coming over from the Reds as one of the prizes of the trade deadline. Castillo is 1-0 with a 1.94 ERA so far with the Mariners.

Monday’s meeting looks like a pitching duel with Ohtani vs. Castillo. These two teams split a 4-game series last weekend in Seattle and the Angels have won five of six since then. Flip a coin in this Mariners vs Angels matchup that likely won’t be decided until the 8th-9th innings.
