The last 16 in the Europa League gets underway this Thursday, with the opening legs being staged. The return games in this stage are played just seven days later. It has been a damaging week for Manchester United after a heavy defeat against Liverpool, and they will be looking to get back on track in the Europa League on Thursday when they host Real Betis.

Before Betting On Man United vs Real Betis

Man United’s progression this term has halted slightly in their previous game, as they suffered a big defeat on the road against Liverpool. That 7-0 loss at Anfield was the biggest loss ever suffered by the Red Devils, and there will be a desperate need for the club to get back on track with huge fixtures against Real Betis and Southampton at Old Trafford on Thursday and Sunday, respectively.

United has an excellent record in the first legs of European competition, as they haven’t lost in eight fixtures. In home fixtures, that record is event more impressive, as United has lost just once in eleven opening matches of a knockout competition at the Theatre of Dreams. However, that defeat did come against a La Liga opponent, with Athletic Bilbao claiming victory in March 2012.

Betis hasn’t previously came up against Manchester United in a competitive fixture, but this will be their six matches against an English opponent. They have won just once in five previous fixtures, and have lost four times over the same period.

Their record in the knockout stage would also be a concern, as Betis has won just once in their seven previous knockout games in the Europa League. However, Manuel Pellegrini does have previous experience against United in European competition, but all four previous games that he has managed against the Red Devils have ended in 0-0 draws.
