The fourth round of the FA Cup gets underway with a blockbuster fixture on Friday evening. It will pit together the top two in the Premier League standings, as Manchester City welcome high-flying Arsenal to the Etihad. But, which side will progress through to the fifth round of the prestigious cup competition?

Before Betting On Man City vs Arsenal

This is an extremely exciting FA Cup tie in prospect, as both Man City and Arsenal will be looking to make it all the way to Wembley this term. City boast an excellent record against the Gunners since the arrival of Pep Guardiola, as they have picked up 13 wins from 16 previous meetings. In fact, Guardiola’s City only has a better record against Burnley since the Spanish manager arrived. However, both defeats that City have lost during that period have come in the FA Cup.

The Gunners have excelled in FA Cup fixtures between the sides, as they have picked up victories in each of the previous four. A fact that bodes well for Arsenal is the fact that they have reached the final on each occasion that they have eliminated City, winning the competition on three occasions. Their most recent success in the FA Cup came in 2020, as the Gunners knocked City out at the semi-final stage.

However, this appears to be a different prospect for the Gunners at the Etihad, as City have won their previous nine home fixtures in the FA Cup. During that run, they have scored at least three goals in every home match that they have played, and they have scored a total of 40 goals.

Arsenal were eliminated from the FA Cup by Premier League opposition last season, as they were beaten 1-0 on the road by Southampton in the fourth round. However, they haven’t lost in back-to-back years against Premier League opposition since the 2011 campaign where they lost to Manchester United.

This should be an exciting game in the FA Cup between the top two in the Premier League. However, it is hard to see past City on Friday, as they boast an incredible home record in the competition. We could see Riyad Mahrez playing a key role, as he has scored seven goals in his previous five appearances in the competition.
