Liverpool will be looking for a second victory in the Champions League this season, as they take on Rangers at Anfield on Tuesday. It will be a classic battle of Britain on Merseyside, but the pressure will really be on the Gers, as they look for a first goal, and victory, since returning to the Champions League.

Before Betting On Liverpool vs Rangers

This is one of the fixtures in the Champions League that Liverpool fans have been looking forward to this season, as they come up against Scottish side Rangers at Anfield.

The Reds have endured an indifferent start to the new season, and they will be looking for just a second victory in the competition to potentially join Napoli at the top of the standings in Group A. Meanwhile, the Gers will be looking for a first victory after being beaten comprehensively in their first two fixtures since returning to the Champions League.

Surprisingly, this will be the first time that Liverpool and Rangers have clashed in a European competition. But, Rangers don’t have a good record on the road in Europe against English opposition, as they have picked up just a single victory from their previous seven attempts. That only win was recorded in November 1992 against Leeds United.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will come up against Scottish opposition in the Champions League for the first time since beating Sir Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen in the 1980-81 European Cup. On that occasion, the Reds won 4-0 at Anfield, and 1-0 away from home. Only one Scottish side has won away from home against English opposition in the Champions League, as Celtic beat Leeds United in the European Cup semi-finals in the 1969-70 season.

The trends don’t look good for Rangers coming into this fixture. Despite early season struggles, we find it hard to see past Liverpool winning this fixture. We could see the Reds picking up the points, with over 2.5 goals being scored in the fixture.
