Detroit Has Momentum

All the good karma the Minnesota Vikings (1-1) had built up in their 23-7 win over Green Bay in the season opener was thrown by the wayside after getting dominated 24-7 in Philadelphia on Monday night. Now the Vikings are back home, but against a hungry Detroit Lions (1-1) team coming off a 36-27 win over Washington last week.

If we’re making comparisons, Detroit did play better against the Eagles than Minnesota did while losing 38-35 in the season opener. That game was also at Ford Field, and the Lions Vikings week 3 matchup is the first road tilt of the season for Dan Campbell’s team. We will see if the offense that is averaging 35.5 ppg (2nd in NFL) can travel.

Kirk Cousins is historically atrocious in primetime, going 2-10 in Monday Night Football and 8-19 overall. Perhaps all he needs is another Sunday day game, as he threw for 277 yards and 2 TDs against the Packers in the opener with Justin Jefferson catching 9 balls for 184 yards and both scores. Jefferson had just 6 catches for 48 yards on Monday.

The Lions aren’t getting much respect as nearly a TD underdog on Sunday despite their offense looking like it can go toe-to-toe with anybody right now. D’Andre Swift is averaging 100 ypg rushing and Amon-Ra St. Brown looks like a star in the making (if he’s not already) with 17 catches for 180 yards and 2 TDs already.

Lions Vikings Week 3 Prediction

While the Lions can certainly score, they also have a defense giving up the third most yards (425.5) and second most points (32.5) in the NFL. That doesn’t mean Detroit isn’t going to get their points on Sunday, it just means they’re also going to allow a lot which is why the play here is on the ‘over’ 52.5.
