The final British Classic of the season will take place at Doncaster on Saturday, with the field of horses aged three competing over a mile and six furlongs. It is the longest of the British Triple Crown races, and there is a fascinating outlook to the betting before the big race in Yorkshire.

Before Betting On St Leger Stakes

The curtain comes down on the Classic season in the United Kingdom on Saturday, as the prestigious G1 St Leger Stakes is run at Doncaster. This weekend’s race is the longest of the Classics in the UK, with the field set to compete over a distance of a mile and six furlongs. Aidan O’Brien has a very strong hand, as he chases a second straight win in the race following Continuous’ victory in 2023.

Illinois has been solid in the betting throughout the week, and he will likely be the choice of Wayne Lordon in the absence of Ryan Moore at Doncaster on Saturday. The three-year-old produced a solid effort to finish a neck behind Los Angeles in the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes last month, and he has already won over this distance after landing the G2 Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot in June.

Jan Brueghel is one of a number of stablemates to Illinois that could line-up this weekend. The three-year-old boasts a perfect career record to this point, winning on each of his three starts under rules. The latest of those was an excellent success in the G3 Gordon Stakes over a mile and four, beating subsequent winner Bellum Justum by a neck.

You Got To Me has been supplemented for the St Leger this weekend, and there will be high hopes surrounding the Ralph Beckett runner. The G1 Irish Oaks winner was excellent when beating Content at the Curragh in July, before that form was reversed in the G1 Yorkshire Oaks last month. Major player at the weights this weekend.

A very competitive renewal of the St Leger looks likely this weekend. However, Illinois already boasts the quality in the book to be our standout selection. At the prices, Deira Mile could be an improving colt for Owen Burrows, and he is unexposed over this trip after finishing an impressive fourth in the G1 Derby.
