The penultimate race on the Kentucky Downs multi-million dollar card this weekend comes in the form of the G2 Kentucky Turf Cup. This race will be the ninth on the card, and it will feature eleven runners competing over 1 ½ miles on the turf for a share of the $2 million purse.
Before Betting On Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes
The G2 Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes is the most prestigious race on the card this weekend, with the field set to compete over a distance of 1 ½ miles. This race has been run since 1990 when it was previously known as the Sam Houston Stakes, while the victor on Saturday will secure their berth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf for November.
Get Smokin looks like a solid starting point when assessing the contenders this weekend. The Mark Casse runner landed victory in this race last year, and the seven-year-old arrives at Kentucky Downs this weekend in fine form after previously landing the G2 United Nations at Monmouth Park. Despite carrying top weight, he boasts obvious claims.
However, Integration will be a very short favorite in the betting for Claude McGaughey on Saturday. The four-year-old was a close second behind Nations Pride in the G1 Arlington Million last month, and has already recorded a dominant success this term after winning the Million Preview Stakes at Colonial Downs. Very much the one to beat on the strength of his Grade One performance.
Aidan O’Brien will saddle Chief Little Rock on Saturday, who will carry bottom weight as the only three-year-old runner in the field. He has won once from three starts this season, with his only victory coming over a mile and two at the Curragh in Group Three company. Highway Robber is also worth a second look for the Brian Lynch team after winning twice from three starts this season, which includes the KY Downs Preview Turf Cup Stakes last month.

Integration is very short in the betting for the Turf Cup Stakes this weekend, and he should take the beating based on the form of his second behind Nations Pride last time out. However, Tawny Port could be an interesting gamble at the prices and weights. He was third in the G2 United Nations in July, and has improved with every showing on the turf so far this term.
