A huge night of heavyweight boxing action this Saturday will be headlined by the showdown between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk. However, there is an interesting IBF eliminator on the undercard, as Filip Hrgovic or Zhang Zhilei could set up a world title showdown against the winner of the main event.
Before Betting On Filip Hrgovic vs Zhang Zhilei
Filip Hrgovic is already considered one of the best heavyweights in the world, with main expecting the Croatian to become the standout contender for a world title shot with victory on Saturday. The Croatian won gold at the European Amateur Boxing Championships in 2016, and picked up the bronze medal at the Olympics in 2016.
Since turning professional, Hrgovic is yet to lose a bout, as he holds a dominant record of 14-0. Twelve of his victories have been recorded by KO, while he has been taken the distance on just once occasion. The Croatian won the IBF international heavyweight title with a stunning TKO win over Rydell Booker in 2020, and has since defended the gold against Marko Radonjic and Emir Ahmatovic.
Zhang Zhilei looks set to be a tough opponent for Hrgovic on Saturday, as he also achieved notable amateur success throughout his career. He won the bronze medals at the 2007 and 2009 World Championships and won silver at the Olympics in 2008.
However, Zhilei comes into this bout with a slight point to prove, as he could only pick up a draw against Jerry Forrest last year. He came back from that setback with a stunning second round finish against Craig Lewis in November 2021, before beating Scott Alexander in the first round earlier this year.
