FA Cup Final Preview

It has been a progressive first season in charge for both of the managers involved in the cup final. Mikel Arteta arrived mid-way through the season, but was unable to lead the club to fight for a European place. However, victory in the FA Cup final would mark a first achievement for the Spaniard and as part of winning the FA Cup, the Gunners would get a place in the Europa League.

Arsenal will certainly come into this fixture trying to replicate what they were able to do in the semi-finals. On that occasion, the Gunners were in excellent form as they were able to beat Manchester City 2-0. The two goals in the game were scored in either half by Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. Arsenal have won this competition more than any other club, with three of their 13 FA Cup successes coming in the last ten years.

Frank Lampard has done a great job with his young side throughout the season, but there is a sense that more is to come. The Blues have already brought in Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, which could mean that the trust in youth could be ending. Regardless, the young players still playing for the club such as Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount may want to put a marker down for next season with victory over the Gunners this weekend.

Chelsea have done excellently to reach this point, as they have beaten Liverpool, Leicester City and Manchester United in the previous rounds. That success against United was in the semi-final, as the Blues took advantage of a lacklustre performance from the Red Devils to win 3-1.

Previous Meetings Between Arsenal/Chelsea

These two sides are very well watched, and that is highlighted in the head to head record. Chelsea have won three times in all competitions and Arsenal have won twice. There have also been five draws. The previous meeting between the two sides ended in a draw, as Jorginho and Cesar Azpilicueta scored for the Blues, and Gabriel Martinelli and Hector Bellerin scored for the Gunners.

FA Cup Final Prediction

This fixture could realistically go either way. Chelsea were able to edge United in the semi-finals without playing their best, while the Gunners were superb in their last game in this competition. Mikel Arteta does have an excellent record against the bigger clubs since the restart having already beaten Manchester City and Liverpool. If Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette perform to their pinnacle, then Arteta will be adding Chelsea to his list of victims.

Pick: Arsenal at +250 with Bet365.
