Liverpool vs. Chelsea Preview

In a match that might have massive implications on the battle for the Champions League spot, Liverpool hosts Chelsea on Wednesday night. Both the Reds and the Blues are bidding for one of the top four positions, but having in mind that Manchester City probably won the title already, there will be just three more places for the most prominent European competition. Therefore, the significance of this matchup is huge, as other teams stalk their chance to gain an edge in this exciting race.

Are the Reds OK Now?

0-2 win at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United sparked some hope that the Reds might overcome the crisis. Well, we saw the same thinking two weeks ago after the game vs. RB Leipzig, and Liverpool suffered a loss against Everton. So to be honest, the answer is no, they are not ok. The champs need to put up at least three or four wins in a row to say that the turbulences are gone.

The match against United was the third in a row L’pool played with under 2.5 goals, and scores on just one side. But there come some pretty disturbing facts for the Reds’ fans.

Their favorites haven’t won in six straight matches at Anfield, and lost four straight for the first time since the early previous century. In four of those six games, Liverpool didn’t score a goal. It is another reason why we can’t say that Klopp’s side is stable.

Tuchel’s Discipline

Thomas Tuchell has nine games as Chelsea’s manager, and during that time, his team won six times, adding three draws. But what is impressive since his arrival is that Chelsea allowed just two goals and that they evolved from a mediocre defensive unit into a superb one.

All this is possible because of Tuchel’s impeccable discipline, as well as his tactics. The German is one of the most gifted coaches in the world, and we are pretty sure that in the next few months we are going to get additional reassurance on that.

The Blues had two tough games, one in the UCL against Atletico in Madrid, 0-1, and the other against Manchester United this weekend, 0-0. We might see some rotation in the lineup, but Tuchel won’t change anything regarding the tactics. Chelsea is going to play tough and cautious as always.

Liverpool vs Chelsea Head to Head Matches

The Reds have two wins in a row, but one is from this campaign. The first clash of the year saw them triumphing 0-2 at Stamford on September 20. Mane scored twice in four minutes to break the Blues.

Liverpool vs Chelsea Prediction and Pick

The game will be ultra-defensive, with Tuchel protecting his goal at all costs. We already saw him doing that superbly. We can’t guarantee that Chelsea won’t lose this match, but they will reduce efficiency, which is why our first choice is under 2.5 goals. The odds are at +100 for this pick.
