Before Betting on Dodgers vs Brewers Aug 16

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the best record in baseball at 80-34, but you can find them as underdogs in most offshore sportsbooks for Tuesday’s matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers. L.A. took a 4-0 win in Monday’s series opener as -164 favorites, but oddsmakers feel Milwaukee has the pitching edge in game two.

Brandon Woodruff (9-3, 3.52 ERA) is up in the rotation for Milwaukee, but he shouldn’t expect much run support from an offense that has averaged less than 2 runs/game over their last four. Woodruff generally doesn’t need a whole lot of backing, as he’s allowed 2 ER or less in 9 of his last 10. Woodruff is 5-0 with a 2.38 ERA at home this year compared to being 4-3 with a 4.47 ERA on the road.

The Dodgers counter with Ryan Pepiot (1-0, 3.92 ERA) who is making just his sixth MLB start. Los Angeles has won his last four outings, but the rookie is also getting some solid run support (6.5 runs/game) over that span. Julio Urias threw 5.0 IP of shutout ball to pickup the win on Monday, but his pitch count did get up and L.A. had to use four relievers to finish things out.

Freddie Freeman and Gavin Lux HRs did the damage in the series opener, but it wasn’t a stellar offensive performance from L.A. who was also shut out 4-0 at Kansas City on Sunday.

Playing the under would be the way to go in this Dodgers vs Brewers matchup. L.A. has been held in check at the plate their last two games and Milwaukee isn’t scoring much lately either. Woodruff should do a decent job of containing the Dodgers, but who knows if his team will score for him?
