Braves In the Driver’s Seat

It was a playoff-like atmosphere in Atlanta this past weekend as the Braves swept the Mets and now have a 2-game lead in the NL East as they head into the last series of the regular season in Miami. The big weekend was nice, but now Atlanta is definitely in a letdown spot in the Braves vs Marlins Monday opener.

Atlanta is hot right now, winners of 7 of their last 8 at the most important time of the season. The Marlins also just took 3 of 4 in Milwaukee, no small feat considering the Brewers are trying for the final wild card spot in the NL.

Atlanta is 12-4 against Miami this season and would love to get the win on Monday to clinch the NL East, that way they can rest the last two games to prepare for the postseason. Rookie Bryce Elder (2-3, 2.76 ERA) goes for Atlanta coming off a complete game shutout against Washington. Elder had a 0.44 ERA in three starts in September and has a 1.53 ERA in three outings against the Marlins.

Jesus Luzardo (3-7, 3.53 ERA) makes his last start of the season for the Marlins, allowing 2 ER or less in 4 of 5 starts in September. Luzardo has a 4.50 ERA in two starts against Atlanta this season but is 1-5 with a 4.95 ERA at home this season.

Braves vs Marlins Monday Summary

It’s not a horrible BetUS price on Atlanta who wants the victory on Monday – but also has three chances to get one this week in South Beach to clinch the division. There has to be at least a little letdown after the emotional series with the Mets, and with the Marlins playing well in Milwaukee this weekend they seem to relish the spoiler role. A play here would be on the Marlins as well as under 7.
