Day 1 of the NCAA Tournament has come to a close, and we did not lack for entertainment. There were a couple bracket busters that became the talk of the tournament. The two big names that you will hear over the next couple days  – the Buffalo Bulls and the Loyola Ramblers. Let’s take a look at the Day NCAA Tournament action:

Buffalo Bulls 89-68 over Arizona Wildcats

The Buffalo Bulls! WOW! They absolutely took over the game against the Arizona Wildcats. The Wildcats came in as the fourth seed out of the South, and now are heading home. Both Alonzo Trier and DeAndre Ayton, immediately after the game declared for the NBA Draft, and there is a likely chance Sean Miller will be fired from Arizona. What a mess. But the story is on the Buffalo Bulls, who now take on the Kentucky Wildcats.

Loyola Ramblers 64-62 over Miami Hurricanes

The Miami Hurricanes missed the front end of a free throw, and Loyola came down the court and did what an underdog does. Porter Moser’s team hit a three pointer at the buzzer to move to the round of 32. The Ramblers and Hurricanes were tight throughout the entire game. Loyola will now take on a tough Tennessee team that absolutely waxed the Raiders of Wright State in the first round of the tournament.

Rest of Day 1 was Chalk

The rest of the opening day in the NCAA Tournament was chalk, with the exception of one game. The 9th seeded Alabama Crimson Tide beat the 8th seeded Virginia Tech Hokies. Collin Sexton was quite amazing, and took over the show to beat the Hokies. Now, Virginia Tech will get the top seeded Villanova Wildcats. The other quadrant in the East Region saw the Florida Gators end the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure season, and the Red Raiders of Texas Tech took out the Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin.

in the West – we saw four tight games, with the top seeds winning them all. Gonzaga won by 4 over North Carolina-Greensboro, and they will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes, who beat South Dakota State by 8 points. One of the best games of the day was Houston beating San Diego State by 2. The Aztecs had a shot at the buzzer to win it, that just missed. Houston gets a shot at Michigan in the second round of the tournament.

Finally in the Midwest – the Kansas Jayhawks were down 10 at one point against Penn, but came back and won the game by 16 points. The Jayhawks will get a seocnd round battle against Seton Hall out of the Big East. The Pirates scored 94 points in the win. At the bottom of the bracket – Rhode Island and Oklahoma played an overtime thriller, with the Rams winning, and now they get the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday.

What a day! Day 2 goes on Friday, and then we will see 16 more games over the next two days. Best of luck with all your NCAA Basketball action!
