Chisora Gunning For Revenge

This could be the last chance saloon for Derek Chisora, as a second straight defeat could signal the end of his professional career. The former gold medallist at the English National Championships, has won 32 of his 43 professional bouts, but defeats have become only too common in recent years. However, those defeats are coming against competitors that are challenging, or are the world champions. His second defeat against Dillian Whyte in December 2018 by KO in the eleventh round ended a two-fight winning sequence.

However, that form isn’t as bad as it seemed as the time, as the Brit will be challenging Tyson Fury for the world title next year. Chisora’s next defeat didn’t come until October 2020, as he put in a great performance against Oleksandr Usyk, who became world champion following victory over Anthony Joshua this year. However, the defeat that Chisora will be keen to get off his record was the split decision loss against Parker in May, as he lost his chance to become WBO Intercontinental heavyweight champion.

Parker Hoping For Repeat Result

Despite not having home advantage this weekend, Parker will still get a very good reception from the Manchester crowd. The 29-year-old heavyweight from New Zealand has boxed in England on numerous occasions throughout his career to this point, and is former world champion, having held the WBO title after beating Andy Ruiz Jr back in 2016. However, the first of his two professional defeats came two years after that victory, as he lost the WBO strap to Anthony Joshua after a unanimous decision loss. That first loss was quickly followed by a second defeat against Dillian Whyte.

However, since those two defeats in 2018, Parker has been able to rediscover his form, and has won his last five. Three victories during that run have come via stoppages, including a fifth round knockout of Shawndell Winters in February last year. He will be looking to put in a better showing against Chisora this weekend, as he admitted himself that he wasn’t at his very best when beating the Brit back in May.

Derek Chisora vs Joseph Parker Prediction

We will be siding with Parker for the fight this weekend. He has the added advantage of youth on his side, and has been a credible contender in the heavyweight division, with his only losses coming against Joshua and Whyte. We can see him finishing the job inside the distance this weekend, and we would fancy the chances of an eighth round stoppage.

Pick: Joseph Parker (Round 8)
