The Triple Crown season draws to a close in the United States this Saturday, as the third and final illustrious race for three-year-olds is staged. The Belmont Stakes will see the field compete over a distance of 1 ½ miles for the first time in their respective careers, with a purse of $1.5 million up for grabs.

Before Betting On Horse Racing Belmont Stakes

It has been a fascinating year of Triple Crown action in 2022, and while this year’s Belmont Stakes may not be as strong as previously, it is an interesting betting heat nevertheless. We The People will be looking to build on his victory in the G3 Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont last time out by landing a success for Rodolphe Brisset. Meanwhile, Mo Donegal is likely to be the second choice in the betting for Todd Pletcher, who has two in the Belmont Stakes this weekend.

Mo Donegal finished fifth in the Kentucky Derby on his previous start, but did pick up a victory over Preakness winner Early Voting in the G2 Wood Memorial. Pletcher’s other runner is the filly Nest, she will be looking to become the fourth female winner of the race, and the first since Rags to Riches in 2007, who was also trained by Pletcher.

Kentucky Derby hero Rich Strike, for trainer Eric Reed, is likely to be a mainstream pick, but whether he will be able to adopt the same tactics as at Churchill Downs remains to be seen. Creative Minister could be the value at the current prices, as he is the only horse to have recorded back-to-back triple-digit Brisnet figures, with the latest coming when third behind Early Voting and Epicenter in the Preakness Stakes.

The field is set for the 2022 renewal of the Belmont Stakes. There are two horses in particular that I am interested in this weekend. The first of which is Nest for trainer Todd Pletcher. She has an outstanding chance on Saturday, as her run in the Kentucky Oaks only points to the fact that she wants more distance. +800 with Bovada and MyBookie would be the play on that horse. Meanwhile, I am also keen on Creative Minister, who looks very good value to improve on his third in the Preakness Stakes last time out. A +675 bet with BetUS would be our play.
