It hasn’t been the smoothest of returns to action for Real Madrid, but they will be looking to get back on track in La Liga this Sunday, as they take on Athletic Bilbao. Both sides failed to pick up victories in their previous game, which means there will be extra pressure to get maximum points this weekend.

Before Betting On Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid

The second half of the season will be crucial for Real Madrid if they are to successfully defend the La Liga title. At present, the Spanish side are three points off Barcelona, and just three points clear of Real Sociedad. Madrid were beaten by the fiercest rivals last week in the Spanish Super Cup, but they returned to action back in Spain with a nervy 3-2 win in the Copa del Rey.

This could be a good fixture for Real to get back on track in the league, as they have won points in their previous seven visits to Bilbao in the league. Over that run, they have picked up five victories. Furthermore, Real has won each of their previous three visits to Bilbao by one goal. The latest defeat Real suffered on the road against Bilbao was a 1-0 loss in March 2015.

This hasn’t been a good fixture for Bilbao in recent history, as they have failed to win in their previous 14 encounters with Real Madrid. Over that run, they have lost on ten occasions, and have picked up just four points. However, Bilbao has been in recent good form at home, as they haven’t lost in their previous three. Furthermore, they haven’t conceded a goal over that period.

However, Bilbao are yet to pick up a victory since play resumed in La Liga following the World Cup. The Spanish club has been held to two draws, and they were beaten in their previous fixture. Still, they remain just two points off the European spots in the La Liga standings.

The recent meetings between these sides have been extremely cagey, and we expect more of the same on Sunday. It’s likely that just one goal will separate the sides, and we could see Real Madrid edging to a 1-0 victory.
