Memphis (26-8) finished the season strong, beating #1 ranked Houston 75-65 last weekend to claim the AAC Conference Tournament. Despite winning 9 of their last 11 games, the Tigers don’t get a great draw to open their 2023 March Madness run against Florida Atlantic, who was 31-3 on the season. The offshore sportsbooks are calling this a close one as the Tigers are just -1.5 favorites for Friday night’s tilt.

Before Betting on FAU vs Memphis

The Owls didn’t play the quality of competition (although they did beat Florida early in the year) that Memphis did this season, but oddsmakers are still giving them a chance here as just +1.5 underdogs.

You have to take quality of competition into account with FAU playing in C-USA, but the Owls put up solid numbers ranking 28th in the country in scoring (79.3) but also playing solid at the other end of the court holding opponents to 41.1% shooting from the field which is 40th in the nation. Johnell Davis and Alijah Martin both averaged over 16 ppg in the Conference USA Tournament.

Memphis is ready to make a run in this NCAA Tournament, getting hot at the right time following a 75-65 win over Houston last weekend as +5.5 underdogs. Like FAU, the Tigers have put up good numbers both on offense and defense, ranking 25th in the country scoring 79.5 ppg but holding opponents to 40.9% shooting (34th).

FAU vs Memphis Prediction & Pick

With a lot of things being equal in this matchup, experience may be the key. The Tigers made the postseason in Penny Hardaway’s first two seasons as head coach (no postseason in 2020) winning it in 2021. Last year Hardaway guided the Tigers to the second round of the NCAAs while Florida Atlantic is making just their second tournament appearance in school history – their first coming way back in 2002.

Pick: Memphis -1.5
