Sometimes top players participate in a bowl game if it’s on New Year’s Day, but that’s not the case for LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels is opting out to prepare for the NFL draft. The Tigers (9-3) still have loads of talent – and Wisconsin has some losses of their own to deal with which is why the Badgers are double digit underdogs at some offshore sportsbooks.

Daniels was great this year – obviously. He threw for 3,813 yards with 40TDs against just 4 INTs and also had another 1,134 yards and 10 TDs rushing. Daniels led the Tigers to the #1 scoring offense in the country (46.4) and the #1 total yard offense (547.8) so that’s a lot of production to replace.

Sophomore Garrett Nussmeier gets the nod at QB for the Tigers on Monday afternoon and he is not the dual threat that Daniels is. The good news for Nussmeier is that Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas, Jr. – two 1,000 yard receivers – are expected to play despite their own NFL draft potential.

Wisconsin suffered a three game losing streak late in the year that cost them their chance at a berth in the Big Ten Championship Game. The Badgers did bounce back to close out the year with two straight wins and have played their usual stout defense ranking in the top 20 in the FBS in points allowed (18.9). Wisconsin will be without top rusher Braelon Allen (984 yards, 12 TDs) as he preps for the NFL draft but UW always seems to find the next great running back to fit their syste.

2024 RellaQuest Bowl Prediction & Pick

LSU won’t have Daniels for this game – but they’ll have basically everybody else. Coach Brian Kelly has emphasized how important a second straight double-digit win season is for the program, and the Tigers are going to take this game very seriously.

Pick: LSU -9
