For all the success coach Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes have had in recent years, the program hasn’t enjoyed a bowl game victory since 2016. The U hopes to change that on Thursday afternoon even though they’ll probably be heading into a very pro-Rutgers crowd at the 2023 Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl an hour away from the Scarlet Knights campus at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Location might be the biggest reason Rutgers is a slight favorite in this contest according to the offshore sportsbooks.

Before Betting on 2023 Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe

Rutgers hasn’t exactly had a lot of postseason success themselves, appearing in just their second bowl game since 2014. The Scarlet Knights have been a good draw for the Pinstripe Bowl due to their close proximity to Yankee Stadium however, getting a win over Iowa State in 2011 with current head coach Greg Schiano but also losing to Notre Dame in 2013 under Kyle Flood.

Rutgers was 6-2 at one point this season before losing three of their last four games. That’s the same trajectory the Hurricanes had, starting off 6-2 before dropping three of their last four. Miami at least won their regular season finale winning at Boston College 45-20, while the Scarlet Knights come into Yankee Stadium on a four game losing skid.

Miami has some talent including two 500+ yard rushers in Henry Parrish, Jr. and Mark Fletcher, Jr. as well as two 850+ yard receivers Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George. It will be interesting to see how the offense functions without 3-year starting QB Tyler Van Dyke – who has decided to join Rutgers in the Big Ten by transferring to Wisconsin. Many Hurricanes fans think the offense can be even more dynamic on Thursday with dual threat QB Jacurri Brown getting the nod against Rutgers.

2023 Wasabi Fenway Bowl Prediction & Pick

Rutgers has a relative home field advantage on Thursday, but Miami is still much better than their 7-5 record would indicate. The Hurricanes have lost three of their last four, but two of those were against Louisville and Florida State by one score. The Scarlet Knights played some tough competition down the stretch too, but have four straight losses by 18+ points.

Pick: Miami +2
