Event Preview
The countdown is over, as the third major of the golf season gets underway on June 18. Shinnecock Hills Golf Club will host the major for the first time since 2018, with a high-quality field competing for their share of the $21.5 million purse. A distance of 7,440 yards will be covered at the event.
Scottie Scheffler will be a red-hot favorite in New York, as the world number one continues to be consistent on the calendar. The 29-year-old was last in action finishing T12 at the Memorial, and he will be aiming to complete the Career Grand Slam this year after finishing in the top ten on four previous starts at the U.S. Open.
Rory McIlroy has already completed the Career Grand Slam, and will be confident after finishing T12 at the Memorial. The Masters champion will need to perform better at the course than he did back in 2018 after failing to make the cut.
Xander Schauffele and Tommy Fleetwood have both shown excellent recent form, and will hold interesting claims. Meanwhile, Wyndham Clark has been consistent in recent weeks, and was the winner of the U.S. Open back in 2023.
Brooks Koepka has been consistent since re-joining the PGA Tour this year, finishing in the top 20 on six occasions. The American could be overpriced after winning the U.S. Open when it was last held at Shinnecock in 2018.
U.S. Open Picks
Excitement levels will be high ahead of the third major of the season. Tyrrell Hatton could be an interesting play after showcasing his best form recently after winning in Andalucia on the LIV Tour last time out. The Englishman is largely consistent in majors, finishing T3 at The Masters earlier this year. He handles this year’s U.S. Open course, having finished T6 in the major in 2018.
