The WNBA season continues on Wednesday, Aug 13, as the Golden State Valkyries (16-15) visit the Washington Mystics (14-17) at CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Both teams are on the outside looking in for a playoff spot and are desperate for a win to stay in the race.
Golden State Valkyries Outlook
The Valkyries are in a good position to make the playoffs in their first season, holding the seventh seed in the standings. They have won two straight games and are 6-4 in their last 10 games. They have a solid defense, but their offense has struggled since a major injury to a key player.
Injury Update: Kayla Thornton (knee) is out for the season, and Monique Billings (ankle) is also out.
Washington Mystics Outlook
The Mystics are just 1.5 games out of the final playoff spot. They are coming off a win against the Wings but have been inconsistent all season. They are 9-6 on their home court and will be looking for their first win against the Valkyries this season, as they have lost both of the previous matchups by a combined total of three points.
Injury Update: Star player Brittney Sykes was traded at the deadline, and rookie Georgia Amoore (ACL) is out for the season.
Analysis and Pick
This is a great matchup between two teams with a lot to play for. The Valkyries have had the Mystics’ number this season, winning both previous games, and they have been playing better basketball lately. The Mystics have a key advantage at home, but with the trade of Brittney Sykes, they are a less-talented team. Given the Valkyries’ solid defense and their two wins against the Mystics this season, they are a great value bet on the moneyline.
