One of the games on Wednesday’s WNBA slate features the Golden State Valkyries hosting the New York Liberty. Can Golden State extend its win streak to three games in our Valkyries vs Liberty pick?
Golden State Seeks First Win Against Liberty This Season
Following an 80-71 setback against the Dallas Wings, the Valkyries have won two straight, including a dominating 87-63 victory against the Connecticut Sun.
Kayla Thornton and Tiffany Hayes were the top two performers for Golden State. Thornton scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and collected two steals. Hayes finished with 14 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Despite a 2-12 record, Connecticut kept it close early on, trailing 23-20 after the opening stanza. However, Golden State put the game away in the second quarter, outscoring the Sun by a whopping 36-12.
The Valkyries were 10-of-18 from the field and 12-of-14 from the free-throw line. The scoring disparity allowed the host team to enter the break with a comfortable 59-32 lead.
New York Hopes To Snap Two-Game Skid
After a 9-0 start, the Liberty have dropped three of their previous four contests. This includes an 89-79 setback against the Seattle Storm on Sunday.
Breanna Stewart put together a solid performance, as her final stat line included 18 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and two blocks. Marine Johannes, who is averaging 6.5 points per contest, contributed 17 points and five boards on 7-for-13 shooting from the floor and 3-for-9 from beyond the arc.
Seattle led 68-61 heading into the final frame before New York trimmed the deficit to 82-79. Nneka Ogwumike converted a clutch 3-pointer as the shot clock expired, pushing the Storm’s lead back to six with 1:30 left to play.
Valkyries vs Liberty WNBA Pick
Golden State is not a prolific offensive team by any means (ranked 11th), but this group is a top-five defensive team. Although the Liberty have hit a rough patch, they are still ranked second in offensive efficiency and have the best defensive rating in the association.
The Valkyries enter this matchup riding a two-game win streak. And while the Liberty have dropped their last two contests, they are 2-0 against Golden State this season. With that in mind, look for New York to emerge victorious when these teams square off on Wednesday night.
