One of the games on Sunday’s WNBA slate features the Golden State Valkyries hosting the Atlanta Dream. Which team has the edge in our Valkyries vs Dream pick?
The Valkyries Hope To Stay Hot In Their Third Matchup Of The Season Against The Dream
After suffering back-to-back losses against the Las Vegas Aces, Golden State has reeled off four straight wins. This includes a dominant 90-59 rout against the Chicago Sky on Friday night.
Despite Chicago’s abysmal 8-25 record, the Valkyries led by a slim 42-40 margin at intermission. However, the road team outscored the Sky by a devastating 48-19 margin in the second half, including a 27-9 edge in the game-changing third quarter.
Not only did Golden State notch its fourth straight win, but it also broke the record for most wins by an expansion team in its inaugural season. The Detroit Shock held the previous record with 17 victories in 1998.
The Valkyries’ offense featured a balanced attack in which five players posted double-digit scoring totals. Cecilia Zandalasini scored a team-high 20 points, along with four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Janelle Salaun registered 15 points, six boards, and three dimes.
Atlanta Seeks Seventh Victory In Its Last Eight Outings
The Dream saw their six-game win streak conclude with an 80-78 loss to the Seattle Storm on Friday.
Atlanta trailed 67-55 going into the final frame. Although the Dream outscored Seattle by a 23-13 margin over the game’s final 10 minutes, it wasn’t quite enough to prevent the Storm from escaping with a two-point victory.
Rhyne Howard was the team’s top performer. She led the way with 21 points, 12 of which came from the charity stripe. Brionna Jones’ final stat line included 18 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.
Valkyries vs Dream WNBA Pick
Golden State is 11th in points per game, but boasts the third-best scoring defense in the association. On the other side, Atlanta ranks second in offensive efficiency and has the third-lowest defensive rating in the “W” (101.1 points per 100 possessions).
The season series is 1-1. Both teams are playing well and both squads get the job done from a defensive standpoint. In a game that can go either way, the edge goes to Atlanta, albeit by a small margin.
