Sun Look To Regroup From Late-Game Collapse Against Washington
The Sun dropped a 90-85 decision against the Washington Mystics in their season opener.
Tina Charles was the lead cog for Connecticut. Her final stat line included 23 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Olivia Nelson-Ododa added 18 points and eight boards.
The Sun led 65-60 entering the fourth quarter before falling behind 88-85 in the game’s waning moments. Marina Mabrey missed a 3-pointer that would have tied the game. Sonia Cintron knocked down a pair of free throws with two seconds remaining, clinching the win for the Mystics.
Aces Aim To Bounce Back From Another Loss Against New York
On the other side, the Aces were eliminated by the New York Liberty in last year’s playoffs in four games. Unfortunately, it was more of the same when these teams faced off on Saturday, as the defending champs came out on top 92-78.
A’ja Wilson put together an MVP caliber performance, finishing with 31 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Jackie Young chipped in with 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists, but she converted just five of 19 shot attempts.
After trailing 47-33 at halftime, the Aces rallied to cut the deficit to 66-64 early in the final frame. Natasha Cloud responded with back-to-back three-point plays to push the lead back to 74-64. Las Vegas did not closer than six points down the stretch.
