  • The Phoenix Mercury are 19-13 and own the second-best record in the Western Conference.
  • These squads previously faced off on Jun. 7, with the Storm claiming an 89-77 victory.

One of the games on Sunday’s WNBA slate features the Seattle Storm hosting the Phoenix Mercury. Which team has the edge in our Storm vs Mercury pick?

The Storm Hope To Get Back On Track After Ending Late-Season Skid

Seattle put an end to its six-game losing streak by posting an 80-78 victory against the Atlanta Dream on Friday night.

Seattle led 40-34 at the break, and increased its lead to 12 points (67-55) heading into the final frame. Although the Dream won the scoring battle by a sizeable 23-13 margin over the game’s final 10 minutes, the Storm managed to hold on for the victory.

Skylar Diggins was one of four players to reach double figures. She led the way with 21 points and 11 assists. Nneka Ogwumike added 16 points and eight rebounds.

Phoenix Looks To Snap Two-Game Slide

Following a three-game win streak, the Mercury have dropped their last two contests, including an 86-83 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Friday night.

In a game in which neither team outscored its opponent by more than two points in any quarter, the outcome was not determined until the last few possessions.

After the Aces’ Chelsea Gray knocked down a free-throw line jumper to give Las Vegas an 84-79 lead, Phoenix scored the next four points, which cut the deficit to one point with 30 seconds left in regulation.

Phoenix had a chance to take the lead with 3.6 seconds left to play, but a poor inbounds pass resulted in a turnover and two free throws from Gray. In the game’s final sequence, Gray blocked Satou Sabally’s 3-point attempt to secure the win for Las Vegas.

Sabally powered the offense with 26 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Alyssa Thomas and Kahleah Copper contributed 15 points each.

Storm vs Mercury WNBA Pick

Seattle is ninth in scoring and ranks fifth in points allowed (79.9). On the other side, Phoenix has the sixth-best offensive rating and ranks third in defensive efficiency (101.4 points per 100 possessions).

The Storm have taken four of the previous five meetings in this series. But given their recent struggles, the edge goes to Phoenix in this Western Conference matchup.
