One of the marquee games on Sunday’s WNBA slate features the Seattle Storm hosting the New York Liberty. Can Seattle hand New York its second straight loss in our Storm vs Liberty pick?
Seattle Seeks Its Third Three-Game Win Streak Of The Season
After dropping a 76-70 decision against the Golden State Valkyries on Jun. 14, the Storm have bounced back with two straight wins, including a 90-83 victory over the Las Vegas Aces on Friday night.
Seattle’s offense featured a balanced attack, as four starters reached double figures. Nneka Ogwumike had an outstanding performance, scoring 25 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. She also tallied three assists, two steals, and one blocked shot.
Skylar Diggins logged 24 points and six assists, while Gabby Williams finished with 18 points, 12 boards, and four dimes for a Storm squad that shot 46.5 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from 3.
The game was tight through the first three quarters, with Seattle leading by a slim 67- 66 margin heading into the final frame. However, the Storm held the Aces to just three points over the final five and a half minutes of the contest en route to a seven-point victory.
The Liberty Look To Bounce Back From First Home Loss
Following a 19-point win against the Chicago Sky, the Liberty have dropped two of their previous three games. This includes an 89-81 setback against the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday.
Breanna Stewart produced one of her best outings of the season, finishing with 35 points on 11-of-17 shooting overall and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Sabrina Ionescu, who did not have an efficient shooting night (3-for-16 overall and 1-for-10 from deep), chipped in with 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
New York held a one-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter. But thanks to a crucial 16-6 burst, Phoenix won the scoring battle 25-16 en route to its fourth consecutive victory.
Storm vs Liberty WNBA Pick
Seattle is ranked fifth in offensive efficiency and has the sixth-best defensive rating. Meanwhile, New York is the top-scoring team in the league (89.1 PPG) and ranks second in points allowed, giving up just 76.3 points per outing.
The Liberty have come out on top in each of the five previous matchups between the franchises. And although the Storm are off to a good start this season, that trend is likely to continue.
