One of the games on Monday’s WNBA slate features the Los Angeles Sparks hosting the Golden State Valkyries. Which squad extends its winning streak to two games in our Sparks vs Valkyries pick?
Los Angeles Looks To Build Off Double-Digit Win Over Dallas
The Sparks snapped a three-game skid with a 93-79 victory over the Dallas Wings on Friday night.
The Sparks’ offense was clicking on all cylinders, as each of the five starters reached double figures. Azura Stevens was the top performer, finishing with 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field. She also tallied six rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while knocking down a career-high five 3-pointers.
The Sparks led 45-40 at the break. But thanks to a 6-0 run to begin the third quarter and another 9-0 burst to start the fourth period, Los Angeles increased its advantage to 76-55, before holding on for a 14-point victory.
Valkyries Coming Off Impressive Victory Against Las Vegas
Meanwhile, the Valkyries recently snapped a four-game losing streak with an unexpected 95-68 win against the Las Vegas Aces.
Kayla Thornton was of one three starters who reached double figures. She scored 22 points while collecting 11 rebounds and two steals. Cecilia Zandalasini added 18 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the floor, and Veronica Burton finished with 14 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds.
The contest was close after the first quarter, with Golden State leading 15-13. However, the Valkyries outscored Las Vegas by a decisive 34-15 margin to take a 49-28 lead into intermission. The Aces trailed by double digits the rest of the way.
Golden State’s defense held the Aces to 36.2 percent shooting overall and 24 percent from beyond the arc.
Sparks vs Valkyries WNBA Pick
The Sparks have the fifth-best offense and are ranked 10th in defensive efficiency. On the other side, the Valkyries have the third-worst scoring offense in the association, but are ranked seventh in points allowed per game (81.0)
Both teams are coming off double-digit victories in their previous outings, making this a tough one to call. Taking Golden State’s performance against Las Vegas into consideration, they should have the edge in a close one.
