  • The Los Angeles Sparks are 17-20 and have the second-worst record in the West.
  • The Washington Mystics are 16-23 and have the fourth-best record in the East.
  • These teams previously squared off on Aug. 17, with the Mystics claiming a 95-86 victory.

One of the games on Sunday’s WNBA slate features the Los Angeles Sparks hosting the Washington Mystics. Who has the edge in our Sparks vs Mystics pick?

Sparks Look To Snap Two-Game Losing Streak

Los Angeles comes into this contest having dropped their last six contests. This includes a 76-75 loss to the Indiana Fever on Friday.

The Sparks jumped out to a 31-24 lead after the first quarter, but the game was far from over. Azura Stevens split a pair of free throws, giving LA a 75-74 edge with 31.6 seconds left. But Odyssey Sims hit a floater in the lane to put Indiana back up 76-75.

Following a steal by Aliyah Boston and two missed free throws by Kelsey Mitchell, Los Angeles failed to get off a shot before the game clock expired. Stevens scored a team-high 17 points, along with six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Kelsey Plum added 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Washington Hopes To Halt Six-Game Slide

The Mystics have had their fair share of struggles as well. After back-to-back victories against the Fever and Sparks, Washington enters this tilt amid a six-game skid, including a 99-62 defeat at the hands of the Golden State Valkyries on Saturday night.

This game got out of hand early, with Golden State jumping out to a commanding 19-8 lead in the game’s first 10 minutes. It only got worst for Washington as the Valkyries finished the first half with a 23-9 run to take a 51-22 lead into the half, thus putting the game out of reach.

Sug Sutton had a solid performance, finishing with 17 points and three assists on 6-for-10 shooting from the field. Lucy Olsen led the second unit with 13 points in 20 minutes of action.

Sparks vs Mystics WNBA Pick

Los Angeles has the fifth-best offensive rating, but is ranked 11th in defensive efficiency. Meanwhile, Washington has the fourth-worst scoring average in the league and ranks seventh in points allowed per contest (81.2).

The Sparks have taken two of the three head-to-head meetings this season. Furthermore, the Mystics have dropped six straight. That said, the edge goes to Los Angeles.
