  • The Mystics are 16-25 and have been eliminated from playoff contention.
  • Phoenix is 26-14 and in a three-way tie with Las Vegas and Atlanta for the No. 2 spot in the standings.
  • These teams previously squared off on Jul. 27, with the Mercury claiming an 88-72 victory.

One of the games on Thursday’s WNBA slate features the Washington Mystics hosting the Phoenix Mercury. Who has the edge in our Mystics vs Mercury pick?

Mystics Look To Halt Seven-Game Slide

Since beating the Sparks 95-86 on Aug. 17, Washington has dropped its last seven games. Ironically, this includes an 81-70 setback against Los Angeles on Sunday.

Washington trailed 40-31 at halftime, before trimming the deficit to 77-72 down the stretch. But a layup from Dearica Hamby helped LA hold on for a three-point victory, while eliminating the Mystics from postseason contention in the process.

Kiki Iriafen led the way with an impressive 22-point, 13-rebound effort. Sonia Citron added 12 points, three assists, and two steals.

Phoenix Shooting For Its Sixth Straight Win

The Mercury enter this tilt riding a five-game win streak. Their latest triumph was an 85-79 victory against Indiana on Tuesday.

Phoenix was ahead by five points (44-39) before closing out the first half with a 10-0 burst for a 54-39 advantage at the break.

Alyssa Thomas paced the offense with 23 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. DeWanna Bonner finished with 19 points and four rebounds for a Phoenix squad that is in a three-way tie for the No. 2 spot in the playoff race.

Mystics vs Mercury WNBA Pick

Washington is 11th in scoring and ranks seventh in points allowed per game (81.6). Meanwhile, Phoenix has the seventh-best offensive rating, but ranks fourth in defensive efficiency.

The Mystics have dropped both meetings against Phoenix this season. Additionally, Washington is 1-4 in the previous matchups in this series. With that being said, the edge goes to the Mercury.
