  • The Washington Mystics are 9-10 and have the fourth-best record in the Eastern Conference.
  • The Las Vegas Aces are 9-10 and have the third-worst record in the Western Conference.
  • These teams previously faced off on Jun. 26, with the Mystics claiming a 94-83 victory.

One of the games on Thursday’s WNBA slate features the Washington Mystics hosting the Las Vegas Aces. Which team has the edge in our Mystics vs Aces pick?

Mystics Look To Make It Two Straight

After suffering back-to-back losses against the Dallas Wings and Minnesota Lynx, Washington snapped its two-game skid with an 81-79 victory against the Chicago Sky on Tuesday.

Shakira Austin was one of four starters who reached double figures. She scored 15 points, along with eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and two steals. Sonia Citron added 13 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, while Kiki Iriafen and Brittney Sykes contributed 11 points apiece.

Austin converted a layup to give Washington a 79-77 lead late in the fourth quarter. Angel Reese knocked down a pair of free throws, tying the score at 79 with 14.9 seconds left to play. On the ensuing possession, Austin was fouled on a drive to the rim and converted a pair of free throws, giving the home team a two-point advantage.

Chicago had one last chance, but Rachel Banham’s half-court heave was off the mark as the game clock expired, securing the win for Washington.

Las Vegas Aims To Bounce Back From Loss To New York

Following an 84-81 victory against the Phoenix Mercury on Jun. 29, the Aces have dropped two of their last three contests. This includes an 87-79 defeat at the hands of the New York Liberty on Tuesday.

This battle between the last two teams to win the league title was close throughout. With the game knotted at 72 in the fourth quarter, New York took control, scoring the next eight points while holding Las Vegas without a field goal over the final 5:41.

Jackie Young spearheaded the Aces’ offense with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots. Dana Evans registered 16 points off the bench on 5-for-9 shooting overall and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.

Mystics vs Aces WNBA Pick

Washington has the third-worst offensive rating and is ranked eighth in defensive efficiency. Meanwhile, Las Vegas is ranked ninth in both points per game and scoring defense.

While the Mystics won the most recent meeting between the franchises, the Aces have won four of the previous five matchups in this series.

On the flip side of the narrative, if A’ja Wilson can’t suit up due to a wrist injury she sustained in the second quarter against New York, that could help tilt the game in Washington’s favor.
