  • The Phoenix Mercury are 23-14 and have the third-best record out west.
  • The Chicago Sky are 9-28 and tied for the second-worst record in the league.
  • These teams previously squared off on Aug. 3, with the Mercury coming out on top 83-67.

One of the games on Thursday’s WNBA slate features the Phoenix Mercury hosting the Chicago Sky. Who has the edge in our Mercury vs Sky pick?

Mercury Look To Extend Win Streak To Three Games

After an 83-61 setback against the Aces, Phoenix enters this contest riding a two-game win streak. Their recent triumph includes a 92-84 victory against the Los Angeles Sparks.

The Mercury raced out to a 48-40 lead at the break and never looked back as the road team placed five players in double figures. Satou Sabally led the way with 19 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

Kahleah Copper put up 18 points and dished out three assists. Alyssa Thomas secured her seventh triple-double of the season, finishing with 12 points, 16 boards, and 15 dimes. Thomas is also the first WNBA player to finish with at least 10 points, 15 rebounds, and 15 assists in a game.

Chicago Determined To End Two-Game Slide

Following a somewhat surprising 91-85 win against New York, the Sky enter this contest amid a two-game losing skid, which includes a 79-74 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Monday.

Chicago trailed by a dozen at the break, but battled back to take a brief 74-73 lead with just over two and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter. However, a 3-pointer from Chelsea Gray and A’ja Wilson’s mid-range number put Las Vegas back on top for good as the two-time champs secured another postseason berth.

Ariel Atkins torched the Aces’ defense with 30 points on an efficient 10-of-18 effort from the field. She also tallied seven assists and four rebounds. Kamilla Cardoso registered 19 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists in 26 minutes of action.

Mercury vs Sky WNBA Pick

Phoenix is fifth in scoring and fourth in points allowed per outing (80.1). Meanwhile, Chicago has the second-worst offensive rating and ranks last in defensive efficiency.

The Mercury have won each of the five previous meetings in this series. Additionally, the average victory margin is 13 points per contest. With that in mind, look for Phoenix to cruise to an easy victory when these teams take the court on Thursday night.
