One of the games on Wednesday’s WNBA slate features the Phoenix Mercury hosting the Minnesota Lynx. Which Western Conference team has the edge in our Mercury vs Lynx pick?
Phoenix Seeking First Win Of The Season Against The League’s Top Team
The Mercury recently snapped a two-game slide with a dominating 102-72 win against the Dallas Wings on Jul. 7.
Already leading 52-39 at the break, Phoenix outscored Dallas 30-17 in the third quarter on its way to a 30-point victory. Sami Whitcomb erupted for 36 points, along with six rebounds. She shot 12-for-19 overall and 7-for-11 from beyond the arc.
Alyssa Thomas recorded her 16th triple-double of the season, finishing with 15 points, 15 assists, and 10 rebounds. Kiana Williams, who converted seven of her eight shot attempts, led the bench unit with 17 points, four assists, and three rebounds.
After avoiding their first three-game slide of the 2025 campaign, the Mercury will now attempt to get their first win against Minnesota.
Lynx Aim To Remain Dominant Against Conference Rival
After coming up short against the Washington Mystics (68-64) on Jun. 24, Minnesota has produced wins in each of its last five contests. This includes an 80-75 victory against the Chicago Sky on Sunday.
The Lynx were in trouble early, as Chicago jumped out to a 24-10 lead after the first quarter. But thanks to a 16-4 run in which it held Chicago to 25 percent shooting, Minnesota took a 38-37 lead into the break.
Fast forward to the fourth quarter, Kayla McBride hit a floater to give the Lynx a 76-70 lead with 27 seconds left. Chicago’s Rachel Banham answered with a 3-pointer, cutting the deficit to 77-75.
After McBride hit one of two free throws, Allana Smith blocked Banham’s 3-point attempt, which secured the win for the home team. Following their win over Chicago, the Lynx seek to knock off the Mercury for the third time this season.
Mercury vs Lynx WNBA Pick
Phoenix is third in points per game and ranks seventh in scoring defense. Meanwhile, Minnesota leads the association in offensive and defensive efficiency.
The Mercury have dropped four of the last five meetings in this series, including two this season. Additionally, three of those four defeats were by double-digit margins. With that in mind, look for Minnesota to come out on top in this battle between the top two teams out west.
