One of the games on Wednesday’s WNBA slate features the Phoenix Mercury hosting the Atlanta Dream. Which team gets back into the win column in our Mercury vs Dream pick?

Phoenix Shooting For Fourth Win In Five Games

The Mercury recently saw their hot streak end with a 79-66 loss to the Minnesota Lynx right before the midseason break.

Despite scoring just 10 points in the first quarter, Phoenix trailed by four points at the break (37-33). Unfortunately, Minnesota responded with a 27-16 surge in the third quarter, courtesy of a stretch in which it converted a 3-pointer on three consecutive possessions. The result was a 64-49 advantage for the Lynx heading into the final frame, a lead they would not relinquish.

Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner were the top scorers for the starting five. Thomas finished with 12 points, nine assists, and five boards on 5-for-16 shooting. Bonner added 11 points and two assists, connecting on five of her 12 shot attempts.

The Dream Look To Shake Off Recent Struggles

Following a 90-81 win against the Golden State Valkyries on Jul. 7, Atlanta has dropped three of its last four contests. This includes an 87-72 defeat at the hands of the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday night.

Atlanta opened the game shooting 7-for-15 overall and 5-for-8 from 3-point range, which resulted in a 27-20 lead after the first quarter. However, the Aces responded with a 25-12 surge into the second quarter, flipping a seven-point deficit into a six-point advantage at the break.

Las Vegas never trailed again, as it outscored the Dream 42-33 in the second half, including a 20-13 edge in the final frame. Allisha Gray led the team with 24 points, including five 3-pointers. Jordin Canada added 12 points, six assists, and four rebounds.

Mercury vs Dream WNBA Pick

Phoenix is ranked fifth in offensive efficiency and has the third-best defensive rating in the association, allowing 100.9 points per 100 possessions. On the other side, Atlanta ranks sixth in scoring and fourth in points allowed per outing (78.7).

The Mercury have won four of the previous five meetings between the franchises, which includes a four-game sweep in 2024. In a matchup between a pair of teams that play well at both ends of the floor, look for the Mercury to come out on top.
