One of the games on Thursday’s WNBA slate features the New York Liberty hosting the Phoenix Mercury. Can Phoenix stay hot in our Liberty vs Mercury pick?
New York Seeks To Build On Impressive Come-From-Behind Win Against Atlanta
After seeing their nine-game win streak snapped by the Indiana Fever, the Liberty bounced back with an 86-81 victory against the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday night.
Sabrina Ionescu torched Atlanta’s defense, scoring 34 points on 60 percent shooting from the field. She also had seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Breanna Stewart’s stat line included 23 points, six boards, and four dimes. Jonquel Jones chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds for a Liberty squad that shot 43.7 percent from the field.
New York trailed 64-47 in the third quarter, but trimmed the deficit to eight points thanks to a 13-4 burst to close the third quarter.
New York’s top-rated defense took over in the final frame as the home team outscored its opponent by a decisive 26-13 margin.
The Mercury Look To Extend Their Win Streak To Four Games
Phoenix enters this matchup amid a three-game win streak. This includes an 83-75 win against the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night.
Alyssa Thomas tied for team-high scoring honors with 14 points. She also dolled out 11 assists and collected eight rebounds. Satou Sabally also had a double-double, consisting of 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Phoenix scored the first 10 points of the contest as the Sun went 0-for-5 and committed four turnovers. After Connecticut cut the deficit to four points (39-35), the Mercury closed out the first half with a 9-1 burst to take a 12-point advantage into the break, a lead they would not relinquish.
Liberty vs Mercury WNBA Pick
New York is head and shoulders above the rest of the field, ranking first in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Meanwhile, Phoenix is eighth in scoring and has the fifth-best scoring defense.
Although the Dream are off to a decent start, the Liberty have won four of the previous five meetings between these teams. And that trend will more than likely continue when these squads square off on Thursday night.
