The 2025 WNBA season kicks off this weekend with several key matchups. In our Mystics vs Dream WNBA pick we’ll break down a clash between two teams with much roster turnover.
Griner Brings a New Look to the Dream
After spending all 11 seasons in Phoenix, Brittney Griner was Atlanta’s first major acquisition of the offseason. Two days later, they signed Brionna Jones, completing a brand new look for a team that won just 15 games last season. Bringing in two veterans proves the Dream don’t intend to rebuilt quite yet, having also traded their 2025 first-round pick for Allisha Gray in 2023.
Mystics Trio of Rookies Takes the Stage
Washington was one of four teams to miss the playoffs last season, finishing the year at 14-26. However, their poor result isn’t an indication of the future. The Mystics positioned themselves well in the draft, entering the night with picks 3, 4, and 6. With those selections, they picked Sonia Citron, Kiki Iraifen, and Georgia Amoore. The trio debuts on the court together vs Atlanta.
Atlanta Dream vs Washington Mystics Pick
Both of these teams feature new-look rosters for the 2025 season. With the current CBA set to expire this year, there are a lot of uncertainties about the future as well. What’s most certain is that Washington has their core of the future. While they may be set up better for the future, they will be facing an uphill battle to see their rookies overcome the Dream’s new veterans.
