One of the games on Friday’s WNBA slate features the Atlanta Dream hosting the Phoenix Mercury. Which team has the edge in our Dream vs Mercury pick?
Atlanta Seeks Its Third Victory In Four Games
After dropping a 77-75 decision against the Golden State Valkyries, the Dream bounced back with an 88-85 win against the Dallas Wings on Wednesday night.
While Dallas has the third-worst record in the league, this game went down to the wire. Te-Hina Paopao made a layup to give the Dream a two-point advantage with 34 seconds to go. Arike Ogunbowale nailed a fadeaway that tied the game with 21 seconds left in regulation.
Naz Hillmon provided the game’s final score: a 3-point basket, to help Atlanta hold on for the victory. Hillmon led the team with 21 points off the bench, including 12 in the final frame.
Mercury Hope To Shake Off Recent Struggles
Following an 88-72 win over the Washington Mystics, Phoenix suffered a 107-101 loss to the Indiana Fever on Wednesday.
Phoenix led 30-20 after the first quarter before Indiana rebounded with a 35-20 burst in the second quarter for a 55-50 lead at halftime. The teams played to a virtual stalemate in the second half, with the Fever outscoring Atlanta 52-51 en route to their third straight victory.
Alyssa Thomas had a phenomenal game, finishing with 32 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists on 14-for-22 shooting from the field. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to prevent the Mercury from dropping their fourth game in five outings.
Dream vs Mercury WNBA Pick
Atlanta ranks third in offensive efficiency and fifth in defensive rating. Meanwhile, Phoenix is ranked sixth in points per game and fifth in scoring defense.
The Dream took the previous meeting between these ball clubs, but the Mercury hold a 3-2 edge in the last five head-to-head matchups. In a game that could go either way, look for Phoenix to win this one by a slim margin.
