  • The Las Vegas Aces are 5-6 and have the fourth-best record in the Western Conference.
  • The Seattle Storm are 7-5 following a dominant win against the Los Angeles Sparks.
  • These squads previously faced off on Jun. 1, with the Aces winning that contest by a 75-70 margin.

One of the games on Friday’s WNBA slate features the Las Vegas Aces hosting the Seattle Storm. Can Las Vegas pull off the upset in our Aces vs Storm pick?

Las Vegas Enters Matchup Amid Early-Season Struggles

After scoring a 75-70 victory against the Storm on Jun. 1, the Aces have produced only one win in their last five contests. Their most recent setback was a 76-62 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday.

The Aces’ offense struggled in this one, with just two players reaching double figures. Jewell Loyd scored a team-high 12 points, grabbed eight boards, and handed out three assists.

Tiffany Mitchell chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds, connecting on five of her six shot attempts. Despite the absence of its top player, A’ja Wilson (concussion protocol), the Aces were up 39-30 at the break. Unfortunately, they were unable to sustain their early success.

Minnesota played with a sense of urgency after halftime, outscoring Las Vegas 46-23 in the second half, including a decisive 26-13 advantage in the third quarter. The Aces shot 35.9 percent from the field overall and 37.5 percent from 3-point range.

The Storm Look To Stay Hot Against Aces

The Storm are trending in the other direction, having won four of their previous five games. Their latest triumph includes a 98-67 victory against the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday night.

Nneka Ogwumike led the way with 26 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Skylar Diggins and Erica Wheeler contributed 15 points apiece, with both players knocking down three 3-pointers.

Although the Sparks were without starting guards Kelsey Plum (left leg injury) and Odyssey Sims (personal reasons), they kept it somewhat close early, trailing by 10 points through the game’s first 20 minutes.

However, Seattle stepped up its defensive effort after that, outscoring Los Angeles 28-14 in the third to take an insurmountable 75-51 advantage into the final frame. The Storm held the Sparks to 32.8 percent shooting from the floor and 27.3 percent from 3.

Aces vs Storm WNBA Pick

Las Vegas is ranked ninth in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Meanwhile, Seattle ranks sixth in scoring and points allowed, giving up 78 points per outing.

The Aces have won four of the previous five meetings between the franchises. However, Las Vegas has dropped four of their last five contests, while the Storm have won four of their previous five games.

Given these trends, and Wilson’s uncertain status, the Storm should come out on top in this matchup.
