One of the games on Friday’s WNBA slate features the Las Vegas Aces hosting the Seattle Storm. Which team has the edge in our Aces vs Storm pick?
Las Vegas Aiming For Third Straight “W”
After an embarrassing 111-58 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Aug. 2, the Aces have bounced back with two straight wins, including a 78-72 victory against the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday.
Thanks to a 13-4 run to close out the third quarter, the Aces led 64-54 heading into the final frame. Golden State responded with a 9-2 burst to close within 66-63. Not to be denied, Las Vegas answered with a 5-0 run, and A’ja Wilson iced the game with a pair of free throws with 34.9 seconds left in regulation.
No surprise that the reigning MVP was the Aces’ top performer. Wilson finished with 27 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocked shots. She was an efficient 8-for-11 from the field and knocked down all 11 of her attempts from the charity stripe.
The Storm Will Attempt To End Recent Three-Game Skid
After securing a 101-85 victory against the Connecticut Sun on Jul. 28, Seattle has dropped each of their last three contests, including a 91-87 loss to the Lynx on Tuesday.
The Storm led by eight points at the break (43-35), only to see Minnesota rally to tie the game with seven minutes left to play. Over the next five minutes, Seattle missed six consecutive shots and committed three turnovers. This key stretch eventually propelled Minnesota to a narrow four-point victory.
Nneka Ogwumike was one of four players who reached double figures. She paced the offense with 23 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Erica Wheeler chipped in with 19 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
Aces vs Storm WNBA Pick
Las Vegas is ranked ninth in both scoring and points allowed per contest. Meanwhile, Seattle is ranked ninth in offensive rating, but has the third-lowest defensive rating in the association.
The Storm have taken two of three meetings between the teams this season. That, and that fact they are the better defensive ball club, they will emerge victorious in what will be a low-scoring, competitive battle.
