One of the games on Wednesday’s WNBA slate features the Las Vegas Aces hosting the New York Liberty. Can Las Vegas stay hot in our Aces vs Liberty pick?
Las Vegas Seeks Its First Win Of The Season Against The Defending Champs
After a 111-58 shellacking at the hands of the Golden State Valkyries, the Aces have responded with four straight wins, including a 94-86 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.
Despite facing the worst team in the league, the Aces needed a 12-0 run tie the game at 45 going into the break. Chelsea Gray converted a pair of free throws for a 51-50 advantage with 7:18 left in the third quarter. Las Vegas did not trail the rest of the way.
A’ja Wilson put together a spectacular performance. The reigning MVP scored 32 points and pulled down 20 rebounds. She also tallied five assists and two steals, becoming the first player in WNBA history with 30 points and at least 20 rebounds in a game.
Liberty Aiming For Their Fifth Win In Six Games
After Minnesota snapped New York’s three-game win streak, the defending champs bounced back with an eight-point win against the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday night.
New York led 50-44 at the break, but the Sparks made sure that this contest would be a competitive one. Natasha Cloud hit back-to-back layups to give the Liberty a 96-85 lead. Sabrina Ionescu added a basket with 1:22 left to play.
After Los Angeles missed a 3-pointer, Cloud pushed New York’s advantage back to 11 points (102-91). Emma Meesseman paced the offense with 24 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Jonquel Jones contribued 21 points, 11 boards, three dimes, and two blocked shots.
New York shot 55.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc en route to producing its highest scoring total of the season.
Aces vs Liberty WNBA Pick
Las Vegas is seventh in points per game and ninth in scoring defense. Meanwhile, New York is ranked third in offensive rating and has the fifth-best defensive rating in the association.
Las Vegas is 1-4 in the previous five meetings between these franchises and has dropped each of the last three matchups. While Breanna Stewart is out of the rotation with a knee injury, look for New York to cover the small 2.5-point spread and possibly win this one outright.
