Aryna Sabalenka vs. Coco Gauff Preview

Sabalenka’s Route to the Final

Three-time Grand Slam winner Aryna Sabalenka will have her sights set on a first French Open success this weekend. The Belarusian superstar boasts a win rate of 70% at the event, and this year marks the second time in three editions in which she has reached at least the semi-final stage.

However, she was able to book her spot in a first French Open final on Thursday after overcoming Iga Swiatek in impressive fashion. After sharing a set apiece, the scene was set for a nervy deciding set. But, Sabalenka more than rose to the occasion, winning the deciding frame 6-0.

The top seed scored just three aces in the win, but her dominant ability to score winners was evident after winning a staggering 97 points.

Gauff’s Route to the Final

Coco Gauff will be aiming to banish the memories of the 2021 French Open final after losing on her first Grand Slam final appearance. Since then, her game has improved immeasurably, winning the US Open in 2023, and reaching two further major semi-finals.

She may not be considered a clay court specialist, but her win rate of 80% at the French Open is the highest of any Grand Slam event. The American 21-year-old has looked extremely dominant throughout the competition this summer, dropping just one set in six matches.

In the previous round, she made light work of the unseeded Lois Boisson. Gauff cruised through in straight sets, and dropped just three games. This will be her biggest challenge to date at Roland Garros this year, but her performances could ensure that she is the value play at the prices.

Gauff holds the overall advantage based on previous encounters. That includes a win at the WTA Finals at the end of last season. However, the only previous clash this calendar year was won impressively by Sabalenka in straight sets at the WTA Tour event in Madrid last month.

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Coco Gauff Picks

This is a fascinating final showdown in the women’s French Open, and cases can be made for both players. However, Gauff could be the logical play.

The American has already beaten Sabalenka on a clay surface, and she is likely to be less fatigued after cruising through her semi-final clash in quick fashion. At the prices, she highlights the value in the market.
