The first of two women’s semi-finals at Wimbledon is set for Thursday, as Amanda Anisimova looks to continue her excellent run at the Grand Slam when she takes on world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
The American deserves huge respect for her return to top form after previously taking a break from the sport due to mental health reasons. But, she has looked better than ever this summer, and she will be the neutral’s pick on Thursday.
Sabalenka is undeniably the best player on the WTA Tour at this point, but she avoided a scare in the previous round. Could that vulnerability cost her a place in a first Wimbledon final?

Match Preview
It is incredibly hard to argue against the fact that Aryna Sabalenka is the standout player on the WTA Tour at this point. The Belarusian has narrowly missed out on Grand Slam success this year, but she appears a red-hot favorite to record a first success at Wimbledon this summer.
Sabalenka has been dominant throughout the competition, with her character on full display in the third round and the round of 16, battling to straight sets wins against Emma Raducanu and Elise Mertens. She didn’t have things all her own way in the previous round, but she still battled back from a set down to overcome unseeded German Laura Siegermund.
We put up Amanda Anisimova as our outright pick to win Wimbledon at odds of +6600 this year, and the 23-year-old has been in incredible form. She has built on her strong showings from the prep tournaments to reach a second semi-final at the All England Club.
Her power and mental strength were overriding narratives in the previous round against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, coming through in straight sets. The American registered six aces, and won an impressive 70% of the points on her second serve.
Aryna Sabalenka vs. Amanda Anisimova Picks
It is incredibly hard to bet against Sabalenka, but we put up Anisimova before the tournament, and we aren’t about to change our pick now.
The American has a strong head-to-head record against the world number one, and everything appears to have clicked into place for the 23-year-old this summer.
