The action in Group L gets underway on June 17, as Ghana take on Panama in Toronto, Canada.
Ghana will be expected to challenge for one of the top two spots in Group L at the World Cup, meaning that they will need to kick off their campaign with a victory over Panama.

Ghana in Underwhelming Form
A competitive battle for qualification from Group L gets underway on June 17, with Ghana aiming to avoid a shock defeat against Panama. Carlos Queiroz is vastly experienced at the World Cup, as he will manage his third different nation at the event this summer.
The Black Stars have flattered to deceive in recent months, having failed to qualify for AFCON, and failing to win in each of their last six internationals. However, a return to form is hard to overlook, especially considering the attacking talent that Ghana have in their squad, headlined by Man City’s Antoine Semenyo and Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams.

Panama Huge Outsiders for Qualification
Panama will be making their second appearance at the World Cup this summer, but it is expected that the CONCACAF nation will once again struggle against the world’s elite. Los Canaleros exited the 2018 World Cup without picking up a single point.
Thomas Christiansen’s team bring reliable overall form into this opening night encounter, having avoided defeat in five of their last seven. However, it is worth noting that they have struggled against higher-ranked nations, with their only wins in 2026 coming against the Dominican Republic and South Africa.
Ghana vs. Panama Pick
Despite being in poor form this year, I fully expect Ghana to hit their best form when the World Cup gets underway. The attacking quality of the Black Stars should thrive in Toronto on MD1.
