The Seahawks Are Teetering on Being a Top-Tier Team

The Seahawks may be 3-2, but those two losses were by a total of 7 points.

As the season wears on, they will regret the loss to the Bucs and see it as a missed opportunity.

Seattle took a 35-28 lead with 3:18 remaining on a Sam Darnold 21-yard TD pass to Tory Horton. But Tampa’s Baker Mayfield threw an 11-yard pass to Sterling Shepard for the tying touchdown. Darnold threw a pick to Lavonte David with less than a minute remaining. The Bucs drove into field goal range and won on a Chase McLaughlin 39-yarder.

Despite the unsatisfactory result, there were many positives for Seattle. Darnold completed 28 of 34 passes for 341 yards and 4 TDs. Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught 8 balls for 132 yards.

As they head to Jacksonville, they need to tighten up their pass defense. Seattle is ranked 25th in the NFL in defensive passing yards per game. The Jags are 17th in passing yards per game. Jacksonville is 5th in rushing yards per game; Seattle is 3rd in rushing yards per game.

The one area where Seattle has a distinct advantage is that Darnold can get the ball downfield, and Jacksonville is vulnerable to the pass, ranked 27th in defensive passing yards per game.

Darnold has been everything the Seahawks thought they were getting and more. He’s got a completion percentage of 73.1, is leading the league in yards per pass at 9.3, and has thrown 9 TDs, and 3 picks. Had he not thrown that interception against the Bucs, Seattle would likely be 4-1 right now.

Jacksonville is Having a Remarkable Turnaround in 2025

Rookie head coach Liam Coen’s start with the Jaguars could only have gone better if his team hadn’t let Bengals’ backup QB Jake Browning march his team 92 yards late in the fourth quarter to beat them.

That was their only loss so far this season.

If the Jaguars do ultimately make the playoffs this season, their win over the Chiefs in Week 5 on Monday Night Football could be retrospectively viewed as the catalyst.

The teams traded touchdowns until early in the fourth quarter when the Jags’ Cam Little hit a 52-yard field goal to give them a 3-point lead. KC responded with a nearly seven-minute drive for a leading TD. Jacksonville got the ball back with 1:45 remaining, marched the field, and QB Trevor Lawrence scored the winning TD after tripping on a lineman’s foot, falling to the ground, stumbling, getting up, and scampering into the end zone.

Lawrence went head-to-head with Patrick Mahomes and came out on top with an 18 for 25 performance, 221 yards, a TD pass, 2 rushing TDs, and 54 yards on the ground.

The Jags’ Devin Lloyd intercepted a Mahomes at the goal line and ran it back 99 yards for a pick-6.

Both teams can put the points on the board. Seattle is 5th in the league in points scored and Jacksonville is 10th. They’re comparable in points allowed. One area in which the Jags have shown a distinct advantage is takeaways. They have a +8 differential while Seattle is -1.

Since both teams are vulnerable to the pass, expect a wide-open affair.

Seahawks vs Jaguars NFL Pick

In the Seahawks-Jaguars NFL Week 6 meeting in Jacksonville, two teams are trying to jump into the conversation as 2025 contenders. It is still too soon in the season to determine if one or both is for real, but there are positive signs for the future.

Given how Jacksonville seems to be playing with good fortune on their side and Seattle has had unfortunate turnovers at the wrong moment, expect Lawrence and the Jaguars to come out on top in a close, high-scoring game where the teams will combine to light up the scoreboard.
