Rams Face Tough Test in Philly

The Rams have jumped out to a 2-0 start after beating the Texans 14-9 and the Titans 33-19. Los Angeles’ defense has been excellent to start the season, leading the league in fewest points allowed. They have accrued 8 sacks in two games.

QB Matthew Stafford had injury concerns in the preseason, but has started the season well with a 107.1 passer rating and 3 TD passes in the Rams’ two wins. Puka Nacua leads the league in receptions with 18. Davante Adames has 10 catches. They need a bigger contribution from their offensive backfield. Feature back Kyren Williams has had 66 yards in each of the first two games and is averaging 3.8 yards per carry.

LA has been mediocre in stopping the run, which will be a problem against the Eagles’ Saquon Barkley, A.J. Dillon, and Jalen Hurts.

This is the first game in four challenging weeks for the Rams. After the Eagles, they play the Colts, 49ers, and Ravens.

Eagles Come Off a Big Win Over the Chiefs

The Eagles have picked up in 2025 where they left off in 2024. In Week 1, they won a hard-fought battle over the Cowboys. Then in Week 2, they won their Super Bowl LIX rematch with the Chiefs, 20-17.

Hurts had his normal, mistake-free game, completing 15 of 22 passes for 101 yards with a rushing TD on a tush push and no picks.

Barkley ran for 88 yards on 22 carries and scored a TD. Dillon is proving himself to be an excellent backup for Barkley, rushing for 19 yards on 3 carries.

A.J. Brown caught 5 balls for 27 yards, and DeVonta Smith caught 4 for 53. While the team is winning, Brown has been quiet. But eventually, he will start complaining about his touches. It’s inevitable.

Star tight end Dallas Goedert was limited in practice with a knee injury. He did not play in Week 2.

Philly’s defense has been solid against the pass (ranked 8th in the league), and is in the lower half (17th) against the rush. Jalen Carter has been limited in practice with a shoulder issue. He was ineffective against the Chiefs, a week after he got himself ejected before the game started against the Cowboys.

The Eagles controlled Patrick Mahomes, holding him to 187 yards passing. Travis Kelce was limited to 4 catches and 61 yards.

Rams vs Eagles Pick

Rams-Eagles could easily be a preview of the 2025 NFC Championship Game. They are relatively evenly matched, though Philly is the defending champ, with one of the only things standing in their way of a second straight title being apathy and selfishness. They have won their first two games against reasonably tough competition, but they do have some concerns to address, like getting the ball downfield through the air.

The Rams must get their running game going to have a chance in Philly, since Eagles’ defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will undoubtedly focus on stopping LA’s biggest offensive weapon, Nacua.

Hurts’ efficiency and Barkley’s running will help the Eagles control the clock and keep the ball out of Stafford’s hands.

The game will be tight, with the Eagles likely winning, but the Rams will keep the game within 4 points.
