The Packers have won two straight after a two-game losing streak. In Week 12, they held the Vikings and their overmatched QB J.J. McCarthy to 6 points in a dominating defensive performance.
Jordan Love was efficient and cautious, completing 14 of 21 passes for 139 yards. The Pack was without feature back Josh Jacobs. But Emanuel Wilson ran for 107 yards on 28 carries with 2 TDs.

Will Green Bay's defense have the same success against Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Amon-Ra St. Brown in Detroit on Thanksgiving?
In the season opener, Goff completed 31 of 39 passes for 1 TD and 1 pick. Green Bay held Gibbs to 19 yards on 9 carries and 31 yards on 10 catches.
That is unlikely to happen again. Still, the Packers' defense is one of the league's best. They are ranked 5th in fewest points allowed per game, 5th in defensive passing yards, and 6th in defensive rushing yards. Parsons is on the way to a career high in sacks.
Still, they cannot get into a shootout with the Lions. If the defense lapses against Detroit, they're going to lose.

After going 15-2 in 2024 and seeing their Super Bowl hopes undone with a blowout loss at home to the Commanders, the 2025 Lions have had a tough slog. In Week 12, they fell behind the Giants 27-17 with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation. A loss could have doomed their playoff hopes.
However, they scored 17 unanswered points, including a 69-yard Gibbs rush in overtime for a TD, to win.

Goff completed 28 of 42 passes for 279 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 pick. Gibbs ran for a ludicrous 219 yards and caught another 11 balls for 45 yards. As the MVP conversation heats up, Gibbs is in the middle of it.
Still, nearly losing to the Giants is worrisome.
The Packers' pass rush does not give opposing QBs the time they're accustomed to, the time they need. This is particularly problematic for the stationary Goff. If they can't pass, they won't be able to run. They are missing injured tight end Sam LaPorta.
Detroit's defense is middle-of-the-pack against the pass and 10th in the NFL against the run.

For Week 13 Packers-Lions, it is a matchup between two teams with clear strengths. Detroit's is its offense; Green Bay's is its defense.
Both teams are in a battle for the NFC North with the Bears. The winner of this game still has a chance to claim the division title. The loser probably does not.
Green Bay's defense has shut down every opposing offense this season, apart from allowing 40 points in the Week 4 tie with the Cowboys. They will pressure Goff and mitigate Gibbs. Love and the Packers will do just enough to win the game outright for a happy Thanksgiving postgame meal.
