Consecutive Wins Have Brightened the Jets' Outlook

Amid concerns that the Jets might lose every game this season and that rookie head coach Aaron Glenn would be one-and-done, they have won consecutive games against the Bengals and Browns. While 2-8 is not, under any circumstances, a good record, it's certainly better than 1-9 or 0-10.

Small steps.

In their Week 10, 27-20 win over the Browns, for once, the Jets were not the most mistake-prone and borderline inept team on the field.

Quarterback Justin Fields threw only 11 passes, completing 6 for 54 yards and 1 TD.

Special teams and the rushing attack were the foundation for the Jets' win. Kene Nwangwu ran a kickoff back 99 yards for a TD; Isaiah Williams ran a punt back 74 yards for a TD.

Breece Hall rushed for 83 yards on 21 carries. Will McDonald accrued 4 sacks.

New York held its own and more after trading away Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, but the numbers are still ugly. They are 25th in the league in points per game; 26th in points allowed per game; league worst on takeaway differential at -10; last in passing yards per game; and 25th in defensive rushing yards per game.

Their pass defense has been solid, ranked 8th. But they traded star cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Colts, so that is bound to get worse. They have run the ball well with Hall and Fields.

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson is doubtful after suffering a knee injury against Cleveland.

The Pats Could Be Heading for the #1 Seed in the AFC

The Patriots have won 7 straight and are tied with the Colts and Broncos for the best record in the AFC. Their earlier-than-expected rise is bringing back memories of the stunning 2001 run to the Super Bowl, the first title of the Bill Belichick-Tom Brady era.

QB Drake Maye is on the short list for NFL MVP.

In Week 10, they won a hard-fought battle over Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers in Tampa. For Weeks 11-13, the Pats face the Jets, Bengals, and Giants. If they take care of business in those three games, they will be 11-2 as they prepare to host Buffalo. After the Bills' upset loss to the Dolphins, the division race could be over there and then.

But that's looking beyond the Jets.

Despite New England's history of embarrassing New York, head coach Mike Vrabel will emphasize the importance of focus on a short week.

New England's main weakness has been defending against the pass, but against New York, that will not be an issue since Fields cannot get the ball downfield. They've been the best in the league against the run.

Running back Rhamondre Stevenson is out with a toe injury.

Jets vs Patriots NFL Pick

For Week 11 Jets-Patriots, the game is an on-paper mismatch. Although New York has shown fight in the past two weeks, there's a difference between beating the two Ohio teams, which have a combined record of 5-13, and the 8-2 Pats.

The Browns cannot throw the ball, so they were unable to exploit the Jets' defense, compromised by trading two All-Pros at the deadline. Maye will have no such problem. Both of the Pats' primary running backs are ailing, so that is something to watch.

New York won't run the ball as effectively as it did against Cleveland, and special teams performances with a punt return and kick return TD do not happen every week.

The Jets are overmatched by a scorching hot Patriots team, who will cover the heavy point spread and win going away.
