The Eagles Are Stumbling, but Remain Dangerous

Even as the Eagles have lost two straight to fall to 8-4, they remain in a good position to win the NFC East and possibly defend their Super Bowl championship.

Still, there are concerns. Since building a 21-0 first-half lead over the Cowboys in Week 12, they were outscored by Dallas and the Bears 48-15. Jalen Hurts is having a solid statistical year, but the behind-the-scenes concerns linger. It seems the Eagles are never happy and another late-season collapse is a real possibility.

The Cowboys' loss to the Lions on Thursday night gave Philly some wiggle room in the division, but they are not completely safe if they keep sliding.

Defensive tackle Jalen Carter will miss the Chargers game after having surgery on both shoulders. He is week-to-week.

The Eagles have had trouble scoring. Saquon Barkley has been a fraction of what he was in his all-world season in 2024 and this is a clear issue. Philly is 19th in points per game. They are in the bottom third in the league in nearly every category except takeaway differential, where they are ranked 7th at +5.

The Eagles will need a big performance from Barkley to beat the Chargers on the road.

The Chargers Still Have a Chance to Win the AFC West

In Week 13, the Chargers beat the Raiders 31-14 to raise their record to 8-4. Despite being 2 games behind the AFC West frontrunning Broncos, they could conceivably catch them and win the division. They beat Denver in Week 3 and will play them in the final game of the regular season.

Of course, they need to win a few games before then.

QB Justin Herbert fractured his non-throwing hand against the Raiders and underwent surgery, but he is expected to play. The injury could hinder him.

LA leads the NFL in defensive passing yards per game. They have been solid against the run, ranked 13th.

The Chargers' schedule is not easy after the Eagles. They play the Chiefs, Cowboys, Texans, and Broncos. They are a likely playoff team, but the division is a tough road. On defense, they hit hard, so expect them to pound Hurts, Barkley, and the receivers.

Eagles vs Chargers NFL Pick

In Week 14 Eagles-Chargers, both teams need a victory for different reasons. Philly had squeaked by despite its glaring issues early in the season. Over the past two games, they have not been able to get beyond their lack of a consistent running attack and defensive struggles. They are missing a key piece in Carter.

If LA wants to make that final game of the season in Denver matter, they need to keep winning. The Chargers are a home underdog and will cover the 2.5-point spread.
