Mike McDaniel is Nothing if Not Resilient
After the Dolphins' Week 9 dismantling at the Ravens' hands, 28-6, falling to 2-7, they fired general manager Chris Grier. They retained embattled head coach Mike McDaniel at least for the remainder of the season.
Then they upset the Bills, and beat the Commanders and Saints to get to 5-7.
Now, it's at least in the conversation that McDaniel might save his job when the new GM is brought on board.
Improbably, given the rampant mediocrity in the AFC, they are now in legitimate though unlikely playoff contention.
Stranger things have happened.
Now, they face the Jets, a team they have historically played well against.
Running back De'Von Achane has emerged as a legitimate superstar. Against New Orleans, he ran for 134 yards on 22 carries and scored one TD.
The Saints tried to seal off the edge. They didn’t do it. #ProBowlVote De’Vone Achane

QB Tua Tagovailoa was cautious and avoided the big mistakes that have hampered him this season. Miami's defense sacked New Orleans' QB Tyler Shough four times, and Rasul Douglas recorded an interception.
In the earlier matchup with the Jets, New York QB Justin Fields had a solid game, completing 20 of 27 passes and running for 81 yards. If Miami's defense is as porous as it was then, new Jets' starter Tyrod Taylor will pick them apart.
Miami's defense is near the bottom of the league against the run, so expect the Jets' Breece Hall to get a lot of work. Tua is also leading the league in interceptions with 14.

The Jets Have Won 3 of 5
The Jets started the season by losing their first seven games. At 0-7 and with another lost year in progress, head coach Aaron Glenn's status was already subject to speculation with hair-trigger owner Woody Johnson always on the brink of making a reactive decision and changing course.
Since then, they have gone 3-2.
No, 3-9 is not a good record, but they have shown fight even after capitulating and trading away franchise cornerstones, Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, for high draft picks.
Their win against the Falcons was hard-fought. Receiver Adonai Mitchell, acquired from the Colts in the Gardner trade, has been impressive. He caught a 52-yard TD pass from Taylor and has 11 receptions for 154 yards in his three games in green and white.

Taylor has again shown that he's a competent NFL QB who will run the offense efficiently enough to keep his team competitive. It's worthwhile to speculate what the Jets' record would be had they not continued banging their heads into the wall with Fields.
Still, the Jets are not good. They are -12 in takeaway differential and have not recorded an interception in 2025.
It's Week 14.
They don't have an interception.
This game is an immovable force, with Tua's penchant for throwing picks, meeting the immovable object, with the Jets not recording any.
The Jets are bad against the run, so Achane will have a big performance.

Dolphins vs Jets NFL Pick
For Week 14 Dolphins-Jets, the game has surprising meaning for both teams.
Miami must-must-must win this game to be taken seriously for their borderline miraculous run to the playoffs to happen. After the Jets, they play the Steelers, Bengals, Buccaneers, and Patriots. They could conceivably win the first three and travel to New England with the Patriots already having locked up the number 1 seed in the conference and sitting Drake Maye.
The Jets have not quit under Glenn, and there are players who are looking toward their jobs in 2026 and beyond.
This will be a tough, close battle with the home underdog Jets keeping it within 2.5 points.
