  • For NFL Week 2, Jets-Bills promises to be a tough battle between longtime AFC East rivals
  • Both teams are coming off last-second thrillers in Week 1
  • The Bills won in a frenzied comeback over their potential Super Bowl rivals, the Ravens
  • The Jets lost to former QB Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers on a 60-yard Chris Boswell field goal with one minute left
  • The Bills won both games over the Jets in 2024, the second being an embarrassing blowout in the penultimate game of the regular season, 40-14

Josh Allen and the Bills Need To Avoid a Letdown

In Week 1, the Bills were down. 40-25 to the Ravens at home with just over four minutes remaining in regulation. They capitalized on late Baltimore missteps, including an out-of-character Derrick Henry fumble, and won on a last-second field goal by replacement kicker Matt Prater.

Now they travel to meet their AFC East rivals, the Jets.

Allen’s heroics aside, it should not be ignored that the Bills surrendered 40 points to the Ravens, including Henry’s 169 yards on the ground. Zay Flowers caught 7 balls for 143 yards and a TD.

Buffalo’s defensive line was like a sieve, and their secondary wasn’t much better. They were fortunate that the Ravens allowed them to stay in the game and turned the ball over at a crucial time.

Allen will have his opportunities against the Jets, but obviously, the defense needs to be better.

The Jets Had Many Positives in Week 1, but It Ended Predictably

The Jets’ Week 1 storyline centered on a silly “vengeance” narrative of Aaron Rodgers getting them back for his disappointing (at best) two seasons in green and white. Much can be written on this topic, with both sides sharing the blame for the union not working out.

As for the game itself, the Jets lost 34-32 on Chris Boswell’s 60-yard field goal with just over a minute remaining.

The Jets’ pass defense struggled against Rodgers, who completed 22 of 30 for 244 yards and 4 TDs. Forty-one years old or not, he’s still Aaron Rodgers.

New York’s run defense was excellent, led by Will McDonald, Quincy Williams, and Quinnen Williams. The Williams brothers led the team with four solo tackles each.

On special teams, Steelers’ return man Kaleb Johnson amassed 132 yards on five returns.

Breece Hall ran for 107 yards on 19 carries and caught 2 balls for 38 yards. Expect the Jets to lean on him heavily against the Bills.

The big story for the Jets was Justin Fields. He was efficient, completing 16 of 22 passes for 218 yards for a 119.1 passer rating. Although he’s now on his third franchise and appeared to be a bust after the Bears took him 11th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, the talent is there, and he has a chance to prove his doubters wrong if he can keep it up.

Bills vs Jets NFL Pick

For the NFL Week 2 Jets-Bills matchup, it is a more competitive game than the teams’ recent histories would suggest. While most might be expecting a shootout, neither team will light up the scoreboard as they did in their respective openers.

Fields will have opportunities to get the ball downfield, and the Jets will try to repeat the Ravens’ success by ramming the ball down the Bills’ throats with their running game. Allen is the reigning MVP, but the Jets will make him beat them with their prowess in stopping the run.

The game will be closer than expected, with the Bills pulling it out by fewer than 6.5 points.
